Environmental defense
Environmental defense sounds like something that might need to be funded
by billions of dollars of grants and loans, but the fact of the matter
is that defending the environment really needs to be done one person
at a time and it does not need to cost anything at all.
Follow these rules in your car to help with environmental defense:
• Keep it light – For every hundred pounds of extra weight
that you have in your car, your car will be forced to expend one to
two percent more of energy than what it normally would. This means that
you should take only with you what you need and when that need has ended,
make sure to clean your car out. This especially refers to the car’s
trunk.
• Slow down ? It is an agreed-upon fact that not only does aggressive
driving raise a person’s anger level, but it also causes the car
to emit more pollutants into the air. In fact, rapid acceleration and
braking is not only dangerous for yourself and others, but it can even
burn up to 125 extra gallons of gas each year. With gas prices the way
they are now, driving less aggressive will also help you to save some
money.
• Don’t idle ? Although we all are tempted to idle our vehicles,
the truth is that starting your car up five minutes before you leave
on a cold winter’s day does not do much more than simply waste
gas. Likewise, if you do allow your car to idle for even 10 seconds,
you are sending out more pollutants than you would by even turning off
your car and restarting it.
When it comes to environmental defense keep these simple things in
mind.
